Dec 06, 2016 11:24 AM Back
When most of us think of destination weddings we think about far away, exotic locations that offer one-of-a-kind and possibly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of escape. But, what’s trending now are destination weddings MUCH closer to home.
And, it’s all about location, location, location.
Here are some of the hottest choices for couples who want to stay “close to home”:
And, it’s all about location, location, location.
Here are some of the hottest choices for couples who want to stay “close to home”:
- Las Vegas: From the architecture to the shows, there’s literally something in Vegas for everyone to enjoy. And, it’s not just cheeky chapels and Elvis impersonators. Vegas has plenty of upscale and elegant ballrooms and fabulous facilities for those who want a traditionally sophisticated soiree. Keep in mind that spring and fall are the most popular months with temperatures that are temperate and that summer (June through August) are the hottest months of the year with temperatures reaching well into the 90s and above.
- Massachusetts:Not exactly a spot in the tropics, but Mass has lots to offer. Think Cape Cod for an authentic “preppy party”. Cape Cod is perfect for those seeking to wed at a yacht club and treat their guests to a sensational summer clam bake. Not to mention that The Berkshires ais home to a host of small sophisticated mountain towns offering some of the area’s best local entertainment.
- Florida: Offering a Carrribean beach vibe this Southern staple for vacationers is both “close to home” and probably more affordable than more exotic escapes. Besides beautiful beaches, Florida is home to some of the country’s best amusement parks, resorts and golf clubs. Florida also has something to offer for everyone all year long with North Florida’s prime time running from Memorial Day through Labor Day and Southern Florida’s hottest tourist season running from December through April. Just remember to check the local forecast and maybe steer clear of tying the knot any time from June to November, standard time for hurricane season. And, you may want to also avoid locations and time frames that lend to spring break revelers.
- Main: Why choose Maine for your main event. Well, because it’s got lots of outdoorsy, natural beauty to offer, especially for couples who want a more rugged and rustic experience. Think naturally beautiful national parks replete with wildlife, classic Americana-style diners, charming New England style towns, dreamy antique shops and lots of old fashioned museums and art galleries for you and your guests to enjoy. Summer is (obviously) the most popular time for Maine brides with temps comfortably in the 70s (during the day) and around 50 (at night). However, fall still has plenty to fall in love with if Maine is where your heart is.
- Newport: All roads lead to this quaint Rhode Island location for brides looking for destination spots that offer a combination of old-fashioned charm and glamour. This trendy, yet timeless and traditional seaside hotspot ( which still attracts lots of those who are considered “upper crust”) can boast being the escape for a host of our nation,s most affluent during the turn of the century….and has an impressive array of marvelous mansions with exquisite architecture that have been compared to that of European castles. Sailing, yachting and a vast selection of couture high end stores are among Newport’s main attractions. Spring and fall are among the most beautiful times of year for a Rhode Island wedding, but the summer months with temps in the 80s are still the most popular months along the Atlantic Coast.
- Napa Valley: Can you say Wine Country anyone? This California destination is ideal for couples who truly want to wine and dine their family and friends. It’s also ideal for self-proclaimed foodies as the region boasts some of the area’s most NATURALLY delicious dishes and dining experiences prepared in world-class restaurants and eateries. In addition, Napa’s claim to fame includes plenty of charming towns and chic shopping experiences, spas, golf courses, and adventures such as hot air-balloon rides. Napa is hopping in September as its peak season for harvest, (so besides lack of availability prices may be higher) so it’s best to plan (way) ahead. Other options for your valley soiree include (all) the summer months and October.
- Long Island: Not Exactly The BIG APPLE, but close enough to it…and it has all the charm of many New England Towns and the sweet, chic experience Napa has to offer. From world-class wineries out east to quaint towns and villages, plus a sensational seaside scene along Jones Beach and Long Beach , even an authentic castle for your fairytale affair, Long Island has a mélange of options for every kind of couple and their families and friends. Long Island also boasts a bevy of farmland that allows for some of the freshest local farm to table foods with seaside seafood selections that are among the regions finest. Spring and summer are The Island’s hottest times for weddings (both literally and figuratively) but fall also offers lots for you to fall in love with.
- The New York Experience: City Chic celebrations in the popular hotbed of activity promises to leave guests in awe. Known for the best shows in town (Think Broadway and Off-Broadway), marvelous museums, art galleries and five star dining experiences plus an unparalleled night life (well except possibly for Cali), endless shopping, and some of the East Coasts most popular (historic) tourist attractions including Times Square, Madison Square Garden, The Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and much more. Plus, there’s plenty of convenient transportation options to shuttle guests around from place to place and from fun experience to fun experience. …and it’s hopping ALL year long.
- Tuscon: Nestled between Phoenix and Mexico, Tuscon offers a real western style experience for the couple looking to enjoy all the “Wild, Wild, West” had to offer. Take in the rugged landscape including desserts and cactus …and treat guests to a southwestern experience including some of the best Native American foods, breads, textiles and jewelry this side of the border.
- Aspen: This experience will leave family and friends singing the praises of Colorado (“Take Me Home, Mountain Mama, Take Me Home). Aspen, known for its unparalled skiing also has plenty of rustic charm for everyone to enjoy, especially those who consider themselves outdoor enthusiasts. Aspen is the ideal location for those who want to create a naturally inspired winter wonderland (experience) at their wedding. From skiing and snowboarding to paragliding and dog sledding in the winter to horseback riding, hiking, fly-fishing, cycling, and whitewater rafting in the summer, Aspen is home to a host of outdoor experiences for you and your guests to enjoy.
